Deep within the edge of mist, something <i>stirred.</i> Wreathed in ancient power, it rose: peat and moss fell away, clung to old bones, blackened what had once bleached white.

The creature stood: towering some seven feet tall, bones and hanging leaf litter. And then... it began to <i>walk.</i>

Bone-hooves stepped quietly across the pine-mulch floor, enormous antlers tangling in the leaves overhead, but the creature did not care. It emerged into the glinting moonlight beside the massive lake, and crept along its edges, wreathed in mist and mystery.

The dogs had followed Moonlight's scent, and now they waited for some sign. They milled, and sniffed for themselves; two scuffled briefly in a typical set of snarls and raised hackles before remembering they could speak, and breaking away in embarrassed, muttered apology.

But now they waited: for the leadership of the pack leader, and for Moonlight, who had first caught scent.
