The Sun Plains
The savanna is a large, flat plain south of the temperate forests. It consists mostly of scrub brush and an occasional wiry tree. It is very warm and dry, so that its diverse animal life must always be aware of the next water hole to survive.

Burning Sands
South of the savanna is the desert: alternating hard-packed earth and sand dunes, and sprinkled with cactuses and sharp, dry plants. There is still wildlife, here, but it is specialized to the heat, and often tough and dangerous.

The Scars
The southern rim of the caldera encroaches into the desert in labyrinthine canyons. Red-rock ravines, outcrops and rock formations provide an incredible view, for those that can safely make the journey to see it. There is shade and water, but a risk of flash floods.

Deadlands
Far in the Caldera's southwest lies a warm but lifeless marsh. Black, dead trees point at life that once dwelt there; but now its waters and air are both polluted. It is hard to breathe, there, and the water cannot be safely drunk--possibly tainted by the seismic activity beneath.
